What's new in Cleat
Found a problem? Report it
- Links that open Cleat no longer crash it. A cleat:// link from Shortcuts, a script or another app crashed Cleat when Cleat was not already running. The link, or a file opened with Cleat, now waits until Cleat has started and then runs.
- See a report before it leaves your Mac. Report an Issue and Send Crash Report now open a small window first. It says where the report goes, lists the details and any crash report, and lets you read each file and untick it. Nothing is uploaded until you choose Continue in Browser, and Cancel sends nothing. Your home folder is written as ~ in what is sent.
- Crash reports say what failed. After a crash, the window Cleat shows on the next launch now lists the failure and the crashed thread for every crash report. For reports macOS had finished writing it used to say No details in the report. A report you send names the failure too.
- Faster as you type. Each keystroke does much less work. Checking a name that does not match costs about a fourteenth of what it did, so results keep up with fast typing even with thousands of bookmarks and notes.
- More of Cleat in your language. Almost five hundred more texts are translated into German, Spanish, French and Macedonian: the Command Store, the starting presets, the welcome tour, theme names and the messages you see when something goes wrong.
- Steadier under the hood. A system action that stalls can no longer freeze Cleat, copied images no longer risk a crash while their text is read, and the bundled commands behave: kill lists processes in every region format, gh filters by repository name only, and currency answers are plain numbers.
- Restoring a backup keeps iCloud sync. With configuration in iCloud Drive, restoring a backup used to replace the synced folder's link with a plain folder, so sync stopped without a word and the iCloud copy went stale. The restore now goes into the synced folder, your other Macs get the restored snippets, quicklinks and commands, and what was there before is kept in the recovery folder.
- Snippets, backups and alarms you can rely on. Cancelling a snippet's fill-in prompt no longer switches expansion off until you relaunch. Backups and Raycast or Alfred imports work with iCloud config sync on. Snoozing a repeating alarm keeps its time, and a snoozed break comes back when the snooze ends.
- Search finds what you meant. find my shows Find My above the files, an aliased command appears once, c++ searches for c++ in GitHub, npm and the other integrations, and how to run is no longer translated into Rundi. Reminders and translations with Turkish letters no longer crash.
- Windows stay put. Centre with a window gap keeps the window's size, cycled two thirds tile exactly with the opposite third, restoring a layout matches windows by title first, and Settings › Hotkeys now warns about every binding that shares a key.
- Crash reports go through the report form. If Cleat crashes, the next launch still asks whether you want to send the report. Send Report now opens the same short SnagFrog form as Report an Issue, with the macOS crash report attached and your version filled in, instead of an email. You can remove the attachment before sending, and you get an email when we reply. Send Crash Report in the menu bar and the palette do the same.
- Sharper answers. Over twenty small fixes to the answers in the field. 10 mod 3 is 1, sqrt 16 + 9 is 13, last friday on a Friday is a week ago, 29 feb finds the next leap year, 9:00 in tokyo and noon in london convert, 1m30 is ninety seconds, 5 ft 11 inches converts, rgb() percentages read correctly and cron steps read as sentences.
- Snippets keep their shape. A snippet with a ## heading inside, like a pull request template, no longer splits in two when saved. Copied text pasted through {clipboard} goes in exactly as copied, and script commands saved with Windows line endings load.
- Report an Issue. Report a Problem in the menu bar menu is now Report an Issue. It opens a short form on SnagFrog instead of an email, with your Cleat version and Mac details filled in, so you can tell us what went wrong and get an email when we reply. Typing report in the palette opens the same form.
- The Mac's settings come first. Typing settings, network, wifi, sound or appearance now puts System Settings and its matching page first, with Cleat's own settings and live cards just below. Settings network, settings sound and the like find the page too.
- Coffee in one step. Type coffee and press Return to see the options at once, without choosing Keep Awake first. A new Keep awake until you stop it row has no timer, and the timers now run up to 8 hours. While awake, the first row shows until when and stops it.
- Jev removed. The Jev setting from 1.1.8 is gone, and typed phrases are no longer sent to TypeSafe. If you saved a TypeSafe key, you can delete the com.gjorge.cleat.jev item in Keychain Access.
- Say it your way, with Jev. Turn on Jev in Settings › Assistant with a TypeSafe API key, and phrases Cleat did not understand before become actions: make it a bit quieter, tea is ready in four minutes, switch to the dark theme. Jev only picks one of Cleat's own actions; nothing runs until you press Return.
- Date math counts in the unit you name:
years since 2014 answers 12 years ago and months until christmas counts months. A bare year such as 2014 or 2027 reads as its first day, so how long until 2027 works too.
- Fixed runaway CPU: audio device listeners were never released, so every headphone, display or microphone change added more until the app pinned a core and held a gigabyte of memory.
- Settings › Commands opens with the Command Store: every integration and script on one card grid with search, an enabled filter and categories.
store in the palette shows the same shelf. - Thirteen new integrations: Visual Studio Code, GitHub, Developer Docs, Package Search, Browsers, Google Workspace, Trello, Asana, Figma, Design Inspiration, Icon Search, Test Data and Web Search.
yt cats, mdn fetch, gh cleat and lorem 3 paragraphs go straight to the right place. - AI writing actions on the selected text:
fix grammar, simplify, shorten or change the tone, with a preview before anything replaces the selection. - A switched-off keyword offers to enable its group and run the query. Slack, Notion, Linear, Zed and Zen searches paste the query and leave Return to you. Query-free commands run on the first Return.
- Eight new theme presets: Dune, Espresso, Orchid, Arctic, Cherry, Sage, Cobalt and Peach. Preview all thirteen looks in the theme gallery and customize the appearance further.
- Pin project workspaces, choose an editor and terminal, and use Git actions. Shell jobs stream output and support cancellation; project file search offers explicit hidden-file controls.
- Inspect Cleat’s CPU, memory and idle wakeups in Settings, with optional local resource diagnostics. These are process measurements, not attributed battery percentages.
- Preview Everyday, Writing, Study and Developer presets and restore previous settings. More ordinary phrases find actions, and result updates retain your selection.
- Command failures show useful recovery actions and diagnostics. Kill Process handles large process lists and confirms the target before force quitting. Undo task completion, deletion and clearing completed tasks.
- Improve high contrast, reduced motion and accessible row actions. Clipboard polling stops while paused or locked, and built-in searches avoid repeated work.
time in new delhi, time in lahore (pakistan) and time in pakistan show inline clocks.
- Less background CPU work: closing the launcher stops dashboard polling and live views. Timer updates avoid duplicate work, and obsolete file searches are skipped.
- Undo clipboard deletions for 30 seconds, including images and pins. Use the Undo row or press
⌘Z in the empty clipboard field. Clear History can preserve pinned entries. - Explicit file searches stay in Files, explain folder and indexing problems, and retain the selected result as new matches arrive.
- Clipboard and snippet actions say Copy or Paste according to the available destination and permissions. Copy fallback shows a confirmation.
- Privacy Mode covers queries, chat, previews, dashboard details and status text, with a visible indicator and a configurable hotkey. Recording follows its separate settings.
- Assistant drafts survive setup navigation. Temporary storage is clearly marked with recovery options. Imports preview duplicates and conflicts, and configuration sync stages changes with recovery copies.
- Settings search jumps to the relevant control. Feature switches apply across results and hotkeys. Dashboard menus reach all due items, and the palette fits smaller displays and handles input-method composition.
- The tour starts with one useful habit, tips follow your setup, and unsolicited companion suggestions start off. Bundled commands remain available when the online directory cannot be reached.
- Thanks for testing: Cleat is $9 USD once during beta, and $29 USD after beta ends.
- A 14-day refund policy: the license window, Settings › License and the site say so, and the buy page explains how.
- The assistant rows say Ask AI whichever model answers; the provider is still named in the detail and in Settings › Assistant.
- Without a license the field answers with Enter your license key and nothing else; every mode and action opens the key window.
- Out of beta. Cleat is $29 USD once, with a license key from Polar. Searching stays free; the first action opens the key window, which also appears on the first launch after installing. Settings › License has the same field.
- One Mac at a time, every update for as long as Cleat is developed, seven days offline between license checks. Deactivate in Settings › License to move it.
