How to have Claude fix bugs overnight

Last updated 5 November 2026

The short answer: schedule Claude to work through your open bug reports at night, on a branch, with your tests as the check, and to stop at a pull request. SnagFrog's night shift does that for each app. You go to sleep with bugs and wake up to pull requests and drafted release notes.

What makes overnight fixes safe to accept?

  • A branch and a pull request, never a push to main.
  • Your own tests, run before anything is proposed.
  • A note on each report with the cause and the fix, so you can review the reasoning, not just the diff.
  • A limit on how many reports a night, and on what a run may spend.
  • Nothing outward: no emails, no releases, no deploys.

Step 1: Connect Claude and set the repository

Follow how to fix bug reports with Claude Code first. Then, on the app's Settings → Claude & code, fill in the Repository URL (a GitHub address, for the cloud) or the Local path (for your Mac), or both.

Step 2: Turn on the night shift

  1. Open the app's Settings, then Night shift.
  2. Tick Run the night shift.
  3. Under Runs, choose In the cloud or On my Mac.
  4. Set Starts at and Reports a night, from 1 to 10.
  5. Press Save.

On your Mac, press Copy and paste the line into Claude Code in the Claude desktop app. That creates the scheduled task. If you change the start time later, paste the line again.

What it does each night

  1. Picks open bugs with a clear repro or a crash report.
  2. Fixes them on a branch and runs your tests.
  3. Opens a pull request and notes the cause and fix on each report.
  4. Drafts the release notes for the fixes.

Reports it couldn't fix are marked as needing you, with what it found.

Step 3: Review in the morning

The app's Overview shows the night's card: how many fixes are ready, the cause and fix for each report, and what it left. Press Review the PR, merge it and ship the build. Then press Release these fixes to publish the release from the drafted notes. Publishing tells nobody unless you tick it.

Step 4: Watch the release

For two weeks after you publish, release health compares the new version with the one before, so a fix that broke something else shows up in days, not weeks.

Questions

Can Claude fix bugs while I sleep?

Yes. SnagFrog's night shift starts Claude at the time you pick, has it work through an app's open bug reports, fix what it can on a branch, run the tests and open a pull request. In the morning the app's Overview shows what was fixed and what was left for you.

Will it merge or deploy anything?

No. The night shift never merges, pushes to main, deploys, publishes a release or emails a reporter. It also never follows instructions written in a report. Merging and shipping stay your buttons.

Should it run in the cloud or on my Mac?

In the cloud for web apps and anything that builds and tests on Linux: it runs on Anthropic's servers while your laptop sleeps and needs the GitHub repository URL. On your Mac for Mac apps whose tests need Xcode: it runs as a Claude Code scheduled task while the Claude app is open, and needs the local path.

What does it cost?

On your Mac it uses your Claude plan. In the cloud it is billed to the Anthropic API key, and each run has a spending cap. You also choose how many reports it takes on a night, from 1 to 10.

Which reports does it pick?

Bugs with a clear way to reproduce them or a crash report. The label night-shift-skip keeps a report out of it, for bugs you want to fix yourself.
