0.18.0 for Windows and Linux

  • New: a local API. Other apps on your computer can start and stop the timer and see what is running, for example a browser that maps a workspace to a client. It is off until you turn it on in Settings › General, needs a token, and answers this computer only. Read the guide.

0.17.5 for Windows and Linux

  • Fixed: stopping the timer in the tray panel could be undone by the main window when it had an unsaved change.
  • The Timesheet follows the day while the window stays open: "This Week", "Today", overdue invoices and the chart no longer stay on yesterday's date.
  • Fixed: Export Backup did nothing when the logo was a larger image.
  • Fixed: an invoice's due date could land a day early after moving its issue date across a clock change.
  • Quit in the tray panel now saves the main window's changes too, and waits for the save to finish.
  • A network problem on the way to polar.sh can no longer remove a Pro license.
  • Time away: idle time that began before the computer slept is offered for review together with the sleep.
  • Archiving the project you are tracking stops its timer, and archived projects no longer get time through Duplicate to Today.
  • CSV import skips rows dated in the future and says how many imported entries were already invoiced. A period's CSV export holds the entries that start in it.
  • The discount field says when it can't use what was typed, and New Invoice shows the number the invoice will get.
  • The entry menu works from the keyboard, switches show keyboard focus, and screen readers announce what is selected.
  • Faster with a lot of data: the Timesheet and the Invoices page do far less work each second.
  • Automatic backups: files you put in the Backups folder yourself are no longer counted or removed.
  • Invoice PDFs carry a title and your business name for PDF viewers and search.

0.17.5

  • If saving fails (a full disk, a damaged file), HourSlip now shows a "Not saved" notice in the main window and the menu bar panel and keeps trying by itself.
  • Fixed: Move to Project and Delete from the Timesheet's right-click menu could act on selected entries that were no longer shown.
  • Fixed: an invoice's due date could land a day early after moving its issue date across a clock change.
  • A network problem on the way to polar.sh can no longer remove a Pro license.
  • Time away: idle time that began before the Mac slept is offered for review together with the sleep.
  • The entry editor warns about an entry longer than 24 hours.
  • VoiceOver can continue, duplicate and delete Timesheet entries, and ⌘N makes a new invoice in Invoices.
  • Invoice PDFs carry a title and your business name for PDF viewers and Spotlight.

0.17.4 for Windows and Linux

  • If saving fails (a full disk, or another program holding the file), HourSlip now shows a "Not saved" notice in both windows, keeps trying by itself, and writes what's waiting before it quits.
  • PDF invoices: dates and amounts now print correctly when the computer is set to Arabic, Persian, Hindi, Hebrew, Chinese, Thai or Japanese. They used to come out as boxes.
  • The invoice view warns when a name or note uses characters the PDF can't print, such as Japanese, Arabic or emoji.
  • Rates, prices and tax accept digits typed with a Japanese, Arabic, Persian or Hindi keyboard.
  • New installs print on A4 outside North America, and new clients start in your region's currency.
  • Fixed: stopping a timer after the computer's clock was set back deleted the entry.
  • Fixed: two invoice numbers that differ only in characters like * or ? could overwrite each other's filed PDF.
  • Safer files: writes are completed on disk before they replace the old file, an empty data file next to backups is reported instead of opened as a fresh start, and a large logo is scaled down.
  • Restoring a backup reports success only once the data is saved, and refuses a backup with missing dates.

0.17.4

  • Rates, prices and tax accept digits typed with a Japanese, Arabic, Persian or Hindi keyboard.
  • New installs print on A4 outside North America.
  • Invoice dates are always in the Gregorian calendar, whatever calendar the Mac uses.
  • Fixed: stopping a timer after the Mac's clock was set back deleted the entry.
  • A damaged activity file is set aside instead of being overwritten.

0.17.3 for Windows and Linux

  • Faster with years of data: the Projects and Clients pages open quickly, and the timer panel and Timesheet no longer recalculate everything each second.
  • Fixed: restoring a backup now follows the free version's one-client limit, as importing a CSV already did.
  • Fixed: sent invoices from older backups could change when you renamed a client or project. They now keep what they were sent with.
  • Fixed: sending an invoice at the same moment the timer panel saved could leave it half-sent.
  • Pro licenses are now re-checked every few hours while HourSlip runs, and Settings says when a license has expired.
  • PDF invoices: ₹, ₺ and ₩ now print on the Monospaced template.
  • Hours are rounded exactly as in the Mac app (0.125 hours prints as 0.13 on both).
  • Fixed: discarding away time that began when the entry started left a one-second entry behind.

0.17.3

  • CSV import: new clients no longer start with a made-up hourly rate. Set their rates in Clients, as the import summary says.
  • CSV import: dates with extra spaces or fractions of a second are now read.
  • Hours are rounded exactly as in the Windows and Linux app (0.125 hours prints as 0.13 on both).

0.17.2 for Windows and Linux

  • Fixed: if you stepped away and the computer then went to sleep, the sleep could be counted as tracked time without asking. HourSlip now asks whether to keep it.
  • Fixed: editing an entry's notes could change its times. Very short entries could become 24 hours, and entries longer than a day were cut short.
  • Fixed: the timer panel and the main window could undo each other's changes when both saved at the same moment, for example a Stop pressed in the panel.
  • If the data file can't be read at launch, HourSlip now says so and offers Try Again instead of opening empty.
  • Fixed: a network filter's block page could remove a Pro license. Disconnect now frees the license before removing it from this computer.
  • PDF invoices: amounts no longer show a box in place of the thousands separator in some languages, long names fit their column, and long notes leave room for the payment details.
  • Fixed: clearing "Next number" in Settings produced invoice numbers ending in "null".
  • Dialogs now take keyboard focus, the global shortcut shows the away-time question when the window is hidden, and Alt+F4 no longer breaks the timer panel.

0.17.2

  • Fixed: if you stepped away, the Mac went to sleep and then shut down, the time until the next launch could be counted as tracked time without asking. HourSlip now asks whether to keep it.
  • Fixed: where clocks change at midnight (Cairo, Santiago, Beirut, Havana), an entry spanning that night could split a day into two groups in the Timesheet.
  • Fixed: discarding away time that began when the entry started left a one-second entry behind.
  • Fixed: changing the start of the running entry after the timer was stopped elsewhere could save a start after the end.
  • VoiceOver labels for the template color swatches and a few icon buttons.

0.17.1 for Windows and Linux

  • Fixed: notes typed in the timer panel could disappear if the main window saved at the same moment.
  • Fixed: dismissing the reminder in the timer panel now sticks instead of coming back.
  • Fixed: up to five minutes of activity could be lost when quitting from the tray. It's now saved every minute.
  • Fixed: a short pause right before the computer slept was counted as active time.
  • Activity older than 30 days is now removed daily, not only when the app starts.
  • Fixed: notes that start with an apostrophe followed by -, =, + or @ lost the apostrophe after a CSV export and import.

0.17.1

  • Fixed: a meeting that appears in two calendars, or two overlapping meetings, was listed twice under Untracked and counted twice in the end-of-day total.
  • Fixed: a short pause right before the Mac slept was counted as active time.
  • Activity older than 30 days is now removed daily, not only when HourSlip starts, and it's kept out of Time Machine backups.
  • Deleting activity history now also forgets the project suggestions learned from it.
  • Fixed: notes that start with an apostrophe followed by -, =, + or @ lost the apostrophe after a CSV export and import.

0.17.0 for Windows and Linux

  • Idle time: when a timer keeps running while you're away from the keyboard, HourSlip asks whether to keep that time, just as it already does after the computer sleeps.
  • Pro: a reminder when you've been working for a few minutes without a timer. The tray icon gets a dot, and the timer panel starts the timer from when you began.
  • Pro: an Untracked card on the Timesheet lists the times you were active but nothing was tracked, and suggests a project based on the apps you were using.
  • Pro: the project you're most likely working on moves to the top of the timer panel.
  • Pro: an end-of-day notification with today's tracked and untracked time.
  • New Tracking and Permissions settings. Activity is kept only on this computer for 30 days and never leaves it. On Linux with Wayland, project suggestions aren't available, because Wayland doesn't tell apps which app is in front.

0.17.0

  • Idle time: when a timer keeps running while you're away from the keyboard, HourSlip asks whether to keep that time, just as it already does after the Mac sleeps.
  • Pro: a reminder when you've been working for a few minutes without a timer, with one click to start it from when you began.
  • Pro: an Untracked card on the Timesheet lists the times you were active but nothing was tracked, and suggests a project based on the apps you were using.
  • Pro: calendar meetings with no entry show up there too (optional, turn it on in Settings → Permissions).
  • Pro: an end-of-day notification with today's tracked and untracked time.
  • New Tracking and Permissions settings. Activity is kept only on this Mac for 30 days and never leaves it.
  • On Macs with a notch, the timer moves to the menu bar while another app is using the notch, and comes back when it's free. You can also pick a fixed place in Settings → General.

0.16.8 for Windows and Linux

  • Fixed HourSlip freezing on a blank window, mostly on Windows. Updating the tray clock and saving your data could wait on each other forever; they no longer can.

0.16.4

  • A roomier invoice screen: the preview now sits beside the invoice details, and opening an invoice hides the sidebar to make space.
  • Issued, Due and Paid dates are easier to read and open a calendar when clicked.
  • Invoice options open straight away, without the odd fade.

0.16.3

  • Report an Issue… now opens HourSlip's report form on snagfrog.com, the new home of our issue tracker (formerly Snag). Nothing else changes: the same form, and you still get an email when we reply.

0.16.7 for Windows and Linux

  • Settings › Report an Issue… now opens HourSlip's report form on snagfrog.com, the new home of our issue tracker (formerly Snag).

0.16.2

  • Report a bug, ask a question or suggest an idea from Help › Report an Issue… or Settings. The form already knows your HourSlip and macOS versions, and you'll get an email when we reply. None of your clients, entries or invoices are sent.
  • While it gets the report ready, a small window with the SnagFrog icon shows that it's working, then your browser opens.

0.16.6 for Windows and Linux

  • Report a bug, ask a question or suggest an idea from Settings › Report an Issue…. The form already knows your HourSlip version and system, and you'll get an email when we reply.

0.16.5 for Windows and Linux

  • In a small window, an invoice's options, extra items and PDF preview now fit the pane instead of running off its right edge, and the invoice list makes a little more room.

0.16.4 for Windows and Linux

  • Client cards are tidier: the last invoice and its status on one line, and a clear Invoice button only when there's unbilled time.

0.16.3 for Windows and Linux

  • The timesheet covers any period: this or last week, month or year, or your own dates, with arrows to step back and forward.
  • Select several entries (Ctrl- or Shift-click, Ctrl+A) and right-click to move them to another project, duplicate one to today, continue it or delete them. Billed entries stay as they are.
  • Time that runs past midnight counts on both days, and each day has a + to add time on it.
  • A short setup checklist on the timesheet for new users, and projects can now be deleted (or archived when some of their time is on an invoice).

0.16.2 for Windows and Linux

  • Import a CSV from HourSlip or Toggl Track in Settings > General. Clients and projects are matched by name or created, and entries already there are skipped.
  • When the computer slept or HourSlip was closed while a timer ran, HourSlip asks whether to keep that time or cut it out of the entry.
  • A timer left running for hours can be stopped at an earlier time: when the computer slept, a few hours after it started, or now.
  • The tray panel shows this week's hours against your weekly goal.
  • The tray has its own icon, a clock that turns into a red record dot while a timer runs. On Linux, choose what shows beside it: elapsed time, time and project, or just the icon.

0.16.1 for Windows and Linux

  • HourSlip is now on Windows 10/11 and Linux, with the same clients, timesheet, invoices, templates and PDF layout as the Mac app. The timer lives in the system tray, with a small floating panel.
  • Backups use the Mac app's format, so you can move your data between Mac, Windows and Linux. A Pro key works on any of them, one computer at a time.
  • Updates install from hourslip.app, checked with their own signature.

0.16.1

  • An invoice's template, reference, tax, discount and extra items now sit under one collapsible Invoice options row, closed by default, so the details and the PDF preview stay in view. Closed, it still shows what's set, like “Modern · PO-1042 · 10% off · 1 extra item”.

0.16.0

  • Invoice templates. Settings › Templates holds your invoice styles: the title (Invoice, Tax Invoice…), an accent color, the font, whether entries are listed, the hours and rate columns, and starting notes, terms and a footer line, with a live preview. Four come built in, and each client can have its own.
  • More to edit on a draft invoice: switch its template, change the tax rate, add a percent or fixed discount, a PO or reference number, and extra items such as fixed fees or expenses, with quantity and price. Tax is charged after the discount.
  • Sent invoices keep the template they were sent with, and backups carry templates and every new invoice detail.
  • A new welcome tour: an animated walk from the menu-bar timer to a finished invoice. Reopen it any time from Help › Welcome Tour.

0.15.0

  • Stopping the timer, switching project or pressing ⌃⌥⌘T while the “Keep that time?” question is open now asks whether to keep or discard the away time, instead of quietly billing the sleep.
  • Sent invoices keep the client name, address, project names and footer they were sent with, and backups carry them. Drafts follow your Settings until you send them, so fixing your address or payment details reaches a draft.
  • Mark Sent offers to date an older draft today, so the client gets the full payment term. The paid date of a paid invoice can be corrected.
  • New Invoice starts on a client with unbilled time and moves to a period that has some when you pick another client.
  • The Invoices list shows what was paid this year, and a new invoice stays visible whatever the status filter.
  • Invoice amounts round exact half cents up; earlier invoices keep their totals. Multi-page PDFs print the invoice number on every page, and entry dates stay on one line in every language.
  • Timesheet: Shift-click selects a range, ⌘A selects all, the entry editor can delete, and Clear also resets Unbilled. CSV export adds Rate, Amount, Currency and Invoice columns.
  • CSV import reads files saved by Excel in Windows or Mac encodings, and new clients start in your Mac's currency.
  • A rate like 0.125 is read as a fraction; invoice numbers that would share a filed PDF count as duplicates.
  • Settings says when another app already uses ⌃⌥⌘T; restores report the invoices actually recreated and show the logo right away.
  • The menu bar panel forgets last time's search, so ⌃1–6 start your usual projects. VoiceOver can edit, invoice, archive and delete clients and projects.

0.14.2

  • After the Mac sleeps with a timer running, “Stop at…” offers the time it went to sleep, so the night isn't billed.
  • Moving a running entry's start into or past a sleep now keeps the away time correct, and archived projects can't be resumed from the Timesheet.
  • A negative tax % is rejected instead of being read as positive.
  • Large amounts on invoice PDFs shrink to fit their column instead of wrapping into the next row.
  • CSV import copes with stray quotes in notes and undoes a failed import completely; exported CSVs open with accents and € intact in Excel.
  • The Timesheet moves on to the new day at midnight and remembers custom date ranges.
  • Deleting an invoice keeps its filed PDF if the delete fails, and selects the next invoice.
  • Invoice filters with no matches say so; drafts past their due date read “Due date passed”; “1 day” instead of “1 days”.
  • ⌘1–⌘4 reopen the main window when it's closed; the menu bar's Create a Project goes to Projects.
  • Licensing: a slow license check can't undo an activation or disconnect made meanwhile; old key errors no longer linger.
  • A failed backup save is reported, and if HourSlip can't open its data it explains and shows the backups instead of crashing.
  • Snappier invoice, entry and Timesheet screens; the jellyfish rests in Low Power Mode; big logo photos import quickly and upright.
  • Onboarding points notched Macs to HourSlip beside the notch; VoiceOver reads project colours by name.

0.14.1

  • While no timer is running, a tiny jellyfish swims beside the notch. It holds still when Reduce Motion is on.
  • With no timer running, nothing sits to the left of the notch any more.

0.14.0

  • On MacBooks with a notch, the timer now sits right beside the notch instead of in the menu bar: the project's colour on the left, the elapsed time on the right. Click it for the usual panel. With the lid closed or on a Mac without a notch, it stays in the menu bar.
  • The Settings button in the menu bar panel brings Settings to the front instead of opening it behind other apps.

0.13.0

  • Stop or resume the timer from any app with ⌃⌥⌘T (Settings → General can turn it off).
  • A timer left running through a shutdown, crash or quit now asks whether to keep that time, like it already did after sleep.
  • Email Invoice… opens a new message with the PDF attached and the client's address filled in. The email text also mentions the period and your invoice notes.
  • Sent invoices stay as sent: the PDF is filed the moment an invoice leaves Draft, exports reuse it, and notes lock. Moving an invoice back from Paid or Sent asks first.
  • Long entry notes wrap onto up to three lines on the PDF instead of being cut off.
  • Invoices in currencies without cents (yen, won…) round each line to whole units, so the lines add up to the total.
  • Backups keep exact times and include your logo; Settings shows when the last automatic backup ran and if it failed.
  • CSV import says how many rows it skipped and accepts times without seconds; CSV export keeps notes that start with = + - @ as plain text in spreadsheets.
  • The entry editor warns about overlapping time and won't save entries that end in the future.
  • Deleting the newest draft gives its number back. Invoice prefixes like "INV-" no longer produce a double dash.
  • Disconnecting Pro waits for polar.sh to confirm, so a failed attempt can't leave the seat taken.
  • ⌘N adds a client or project, ↑/↓ move through invoices, Return in the menu bar search starts the top project, and ⌃1–6 stay put while the panel is open.
  • VoiceOver labels for the menu bar item and sidebar; Reduce Motion stops the pulsing dots.

0.12.2

  • HourSlip has moved to its own address, hourslip.app. Updates now come from there.

0.12.1

  • Automatic updates. HourSlip checks for a new version once a day and installs it in the background; you'll see what changed after it relaunches.
  • HourSlip › Check for Updates… and Settings → General can check right away, or turn automatic installs off.

0.12.0

  • HourSlip Pro is on sale: $29 once through polar.sh. Paste the key from your purchase email into the upgrade sheet to unlock unlimited clients, invoices without the footer and CSV export.
  • Settings → General shows who Pro is licensed to, and can disconnect this Mac so the key moves to another one.
  • HourSlip now checks your license key with polar.sh every few days. Your data still never leaves your Mac.

0.11.2

  • HourSlip now uses its final app identifier, com.karakabakov.hourslip. Data from earlier betas stays with the old identifier, so 0.11.2 starts fresh.

0.11.1

  • Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple. HourSlip now opens with a double-click, no right-click workaround.

0.11.0

  • A new look that matches the website: calm near-black surfaces, hairline borders, crisp white buttons and monochrome icons. Light mode gets the matching white version.
  • A new icon: a little mochi jellyfish.

0.10.1

  • A simpler app icon: just the little blob with its clock.

0.10.0

A cleaner look, a new icon, and a lot more invoicing power.

  • New design: calmer surfaces, flat cards and a friendly new app icon.
  • Invoices: your logo, VAT/GST or any tax name, optional yearly numbering reset, editable draft dates and numbers, summary-only PDFs, payment dates, and copy-ready email text.
  • Clients get their own payment terms and default tax; projects get hour budgets with warnings.
  • Import your history from Toggl Track or a CSV; restore from a backup; automatic daily backups.
  • Timesheet: move and duplicate entries, unbilled-only filter, add time to any day, Today/Yesterday/This Year ranges, ⌘F search.
  • Menu bar: continue your last entry in one click, choose what the menu bar shows.
  • Fixes: 8.875% tax parsed correctly, time across midnight counted on both days, sleep time discarded without losing later work, safer delete and restore, ⌥⌘. to stop (⌘. cancels dialogs), better light-mode contrast and VoiceOver support.

0.9.0

The first public build of HourSlip.

  • Menu-bar timer with live elapsed time, notes, one running entry at a time, and ⌃1–⌃6 to start recent projects.
  • The timer survives quits and crashes, warns about timers left running 10+ hours, and asks about time your Mac spent asleep.
  • Clients (rate, currency, address) and projects (rate override, color, archive).
  • Timesheet grouped by day with stats, an hours-by-day chart, search, filters, and "continue tracking".
  • Invoices from unbilled time with 1/6/15-minute rounding, tax, sequential numbers, notes, Draft → Sent → Paid and overdue tracking.
  • PDF invoices in Letter or A4 with a live preview; rates, currency and business details are frozen when an invoice is issued.
  • CSV export, JSON backup export, weekly hours goal, launch at login, light/dark appearance.

Known limits in the beta: Pro was not for sale yet.
