How to collect testimonials from your users

Last updated 5 November 2026

The short answer: the best testimonials are already in your inbox, in the reports and replies of people you helped. Pick the words, ask the person by email if you may quote them, and publish only after they say yes. SnagFrog keeps track of who agreed to what, and shows the quotes on your site with one script tag.

What makes a testimonial believable?

  • Specific words: "the export finally works with 300 pages", not "great app".
  • A real name, chosen by the person.
  • Permission for exactly those words.

Step 1: Collect quotes

Contact us for a workspace. Then, in the app's Testimonials tab, quotes come in three ways:

  • From a report: open it, press Use as testimonial, select the words and press Use selection.
  • From the widget: add testimonial to data-kinds to offer "Say something nice".
  • By hand: press Add by hand, with the person's email so they can be asked.

Step 2: Ask for permission

A new quote shows Needs permission. Press Ask for permission to email the person a link to say yes or no, or copy the link and send it yourself. They can change how their name shows when they agree. You can ask again after three days. Editing the words afterwards asks them again; fixing a name or title does not.

Step 3: Publish and show them

Once they say yes, the quote shows Ready to publish. Press Publish. Then pick a Wall or Carousel under On your site and paste the snippet:

<div id="testimonials"></div>
<script src="https://snagfrog.com/testimonials.js" data-app="your-app" data-target="#testimonials" async></script>

The trial and Indie show up to 10 published testimonials at once; Studio has no limit.

When to ask

Right after a fix ships is when people are happiest. The Release Day page lists the people a release helped, so you can ask them while it's fresh.

Questions

Where do I find testimonials for a small app?

In your support inbox. People who report a bug often thank you when it's fixed, and feedback often says what they love. Take those words, ask the person if you may quote them, and you have testimonials that are real and specific.

Do I need permission to quote a user?

Yes, ask first. In SnagFrog a testimonial is never shown until the person says yes from an email link and you press Publish. If you change the words after they agreed, they are asked again.

Can people leave a testimonial directly?

Yes. Add testimonial to the widget's data-kinds to offer "Say something nice". A ticked box there is the person's yes to their own words, and you still choose what to publish.

How do I show testimonials on my website?

Paste one script tag for a wall or a carousel; it takes your page's text colour and font. There is also a hosted page at /r/your-app/testimonials, and the quotes as JSON.
