How to add a public roadmap with feature voting

Last updated 5 November 2026

The short answer: list what you plan to build in four columns, let visitors vote with a confirmed email instead of an account, and email every voter when an item ships. In SnagFrog the roadmap sits next to your reports and releases, so feature requests and "it shipped" emails need no extra work.

What makes a roadmap people trust?

  • Clear states: Under consideration, Planned, In progress, Shipped.
  • Votes that mean something: one confirmed vote per person, no fake counts.
  • Ideas you approve, so the board stays readable.
  • A message when it ships, which is the moment voters care about.

Step 1: Add items

Contact us for a workspace and create an app. Open its Roadmap tab, press New item, give it a title, an optional description and a status, then Add item.

Feature requests that came in as reports go on in one click: open the report and press Add to roadmap in its side panel, as a new item or onto an existing one. Its reporter is told when the item ships.

Step 2: Make it public

Turn on the switch in the Public roadmap box. The roadmap goes live at /r/your-app/roadmap and your report page links to it. In Settings → Public pages, choose whether visitors can suggest ideas and whether vote counts show.

Step 3: Put it on your site

<div id="roadmap"></div>
<script src="https://snagfrog.com/roadmap.js" data-app="your-app" data-target="#roadmap" async></script>

Copy the exact snippet from On your own site. It draws plain markup that takes your page's styles.

Step 4: Review suggestions

New ideas wait under Suggested by visitors. Approve puts one on the board, Merge folds it into an item that asks for the same thing with its votes, and Delete removes it. Two items asking for the same thing can be merged the same way.

Step 5: Ship it and tell the voters

When you publish a release, tick the Roadmap items shipped in this release. They move to Shipped with the version, the changelog lists them, and their voters and reporters are emailed. Or open an item, pick the release under Ship it and press Mark shipped.

An app has up to 100 open items on the trial and Indie, and 1,000 on Studio. See SnagFrog vs Canny if you are choosing a tool.

Questions

Do voters need an account?

No. Visitors vote with their email address. The first time, they confirm with a link in an email, and the vote counts once they do. After that, their browser votes straight away. The counts on the board are confirmed votes only.

Can visitors suggest new features?

Yes. Suggestions wait under "Suggested by visitors", seen only by you. Approve one to put it on the roadmap, merge it into an item that asks for the same thing (its votes come along), or delete it. You can turn suggestions off.

How are voters told a feature shipped?

Tick the roadmap item when you publish the release it shipped in, or mark it shipped from the roadmap and pick the release. Everyone who voted for it, and everyone whose report asked for it, can be emailed.

Can I show the roadmap on my own website?

Yes. One script tag shows the roadmap with its vote counts in your page's own look. There is also a hosted page at /r/your-app/roadmap.

How is this different from Canny?

Canny is a dedicated feedback board. SnagFrog's roadmap lives next to your bug reports and releases, so a feature request can become a roadmap item in one click and shipping it with a release tells its voters. The comparison with Canny has the details.
