The short answer: ask the assistants the questions your buyers ask, and count how often they name your app and who they name instead. Do it again after each change to see whether you are gaining ground. SnagFrog's AI answers page asks Gemini and Claude for you and keeps the counts.
Why AI answers matter for a small app
- More people ask an assistant "what should I use for…" instead of searching.
- An assistant names a handful of tools, not ten blue links. Not being named means not being considered.
- The competitors it names are the ones to study: where are they listed, and what do their pages say?
Step 1: Set the app's market
Contact us for a workspace. In the app's Settings, add its website and market. AI answers shows in the app's Growth section when keyword research is on for your workspace.
Step 2: Write your buyers' questions
Open Growth → AI answers and press Questions. Write a question a customer might ask, or start from one of your saved keywords, and press Add question. Good questions name the problem and the platform: "best way to track billable hours on a Mac".
Step 3: Ask
The page shows the cost before you ask. Press Ask now. You see how many answers named you, which other names came up, and each answer in full.
Step 4: Close the gap
- Run an SEO, GEO and AEO audit to check that AI crawlers can read your site.
- Get listed where the named competitors are: launch directories and comparison pages.
- Join the threads where people ask for recommendations.
- Ask again after a few weeks. Missing names also show up as tasks on the app's SEO plan.
Questions
How do I find out if ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude recommend my app?
Ask them the questions your customers ask, such as "what is the best time tracker for freelancers on Mac?", several times, and count how often your app is named and who is named instead. SnagFrog's AI answers page sends your questions to Gemini and Claude and does the counting.
Do the AI answers search the web?
No. Each question goes to Gemini and Claude exactly as you wrote it, and they answer from what they learned, without searching. That shows what the models already know about your market, which is what most people get when they ask.
How do I get AI assistants to mention my app?
Be where models learn from: pages that state plainly what your app is and who it is for, an llms.txt, listings on directories and comparison sites, and discussions where people recommend tools. An SEO audit's GEO score shows whether AI crawlers can read your site at all.
How are names counted?
Names are taken from the answer's lists and bold text, which is where assistants put their recommendations. A name written only inside a sentence may be missed.
