The short answer: crawl your site the way Google, Bing and AI assistants do, compare it with the pages that outrank it, and fix the issues in order of impact. SnagFrog's audit does the crawl and the comparison, scores the site on SEO, GEO and AEO, and tells you how many points each fix could add.
What an app's website needs to be found
- For search engines (SEO): a unique title and description per page, one H1, a canonical link, a sitemap, and links between your pages.
- For AI assistants (GEO): crawlers allowed in robots.txt, structured data, an llms.txt, and facts stated plainly enough to quote.
- For answer engines (AEO): question-style headings with a short, direct answer right under them, and an FAQ.
Step 1: Run an audit
Contact us for a workspace. Open SEO audits under Insights, type the website address, choose the app it belongs to, and press Run audit. The form shows how many audits you have left this month.
Step 2: Read the score
- Overall score and a grade, split into SEO, GEO and AEO.
- Since the previous audit: what you fixed, what is new and what is still open.
- Competitors and AI access: the pages ranking for your topics, the topics and questions they cover that you don't, and whether AI crawlers can read your site.
Step 3: Fix from the top
Issues are ranked by severity (Critical, High, Medium, Low), reach and effort. Each says how many points fixing it alone could add, how big the job is, Why it matters and How to fix it. Filter by SEO, GEO or AEO to work on one at a time, or hand the list to Claude: "fix the critical issues from the latest audit of hourslip.app".
Step 4: Keep checking
On the site's card, set Re-audit to every week or every month. SnagFrog emails you if the score gets worse. PDF gives you a report to share.
Next: keywords and AI answers
An audit says whether your site can rank. To see what it ranks for, read how to find keywords and track rankings, and to see whether AI assistants name you, how to check whether AI recommends your app. The app's SEO plan combines all three into one list of what to do next.
Questions
What is the difference between SEO, GEO and AEO?
SEO (search engine optimization) is whether Google and Bing can find and rank your pages. GEO (generative engine optimization) is whether AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity can read your pages and quote them. AEO (answer engine optimization) is whether your pages give the short, direct answer that featured snippets and voice answers use.
What does an SEO audit check?
SnagFrog's audit crawls your site, compares it with the pages that outrank it, and checks what search engines and AI assistants need: titles, descriptions, headings, structured data, links, whether AI crawlers are allowed, and whether pages answer the questions people ask. Each issue says why it matters and how to fix it.
How long does an audit take?
Usually about a minute; large or slow sites can take several. You can leave the page and come back. Failed audits don't count towards your plan.
How often should I audit my site?
After every big change, and on a schedule. Set an audit to re-run every week or every month, and SnagFrog emails you if the score gets worse.
Can Claude fix the issues?
Yes. Over SnagFrog's MCP server, Claude Code reads the audit's issues with their fixes and works through them in the site's repository. Starting a new audit costs money, so Claude asks you first.
