The short answer: submit to the directories with the most authority first, keep one set of listing text and images to paste, track each submission until it is live, and watch which links actually reach your site. SnagFrog keeps the list of 54 directories, your status on each, and your backlinks from Bing in one place.
Why launch directories still help
- Each listing is a link to your site, which search engines count.
- Directories and "alternatives to" sites are where AI assistants learn which tools exist.
- Some send real visitors on launch day.
Step 1: Prepare your listing once
Contact us for a workspace. Add the app's website in its Settings so listings can be checked. Then open its Backlinks page and fill in the Listing details on the Setup tab: the text, logo and screenshots every directory asks for.
Step 2: Submit, best first
The Directories tab lists each directory with its cost, your status and an authority score from 0 to 10. For each one:
- Press Submit to open its submit page.
- Fill in its form from your listing details.
- Back in SnagFrog, press I submitted it.
- When the listing is live, paste its address and press Mark listed.
The best 10 missing directories also show on the app's SEO plan, and on each release's Release Day page.
Step 3: Connect Bing for backlinks
Connect Bing Webmaster Tools in Keywords → Settings and choose the site. The Backlinks page then shows the sites that link to you, new and lost links each week, and how strong each site is. Links are read weekly; Fetch now reads them sooner.
Step 4: Keep it current
SnagFrog re-checks every listing every 30 days, so a directory that drops you shows up. Pair this with keyword tracking to see whether new links move your rankings.
Questions
Which launch directories should I submit my app to?
Start with the free ones that have the most authority and fit your audience, such as Product Hunt, AlternativeTo, SaaSHub, Indie Hackers and DevHunt, then the paid ones worth the price. SnagFrog lists 54 directories with their cost and an authority score from 0 to 10, and puts the best missing ones on your SEO plan.
Does SnagFrog submit my app for me?
No. You submit on each directory's own form. SnagFrog opens the submit page, keeps your listing text, logo and screenshots ready to paste, and tracks each one from submitted to listed.
How does it know I am listed?
A directory counts as listed when you paste your listing's address and it links to your site, or when Bing finds a link from it. SnagFrog checks a listing when you add it, then every 30 days.
How do I see my backlinks for free?
Connect Bing Webmaster Tools, which is free. SnagFrog then shows the sites linking to you, new and lost links each week, and how strong each linking site is. Bing only lists links its crawler has found, so a new one can take a while to appear.
